Estimate labor hours to replace torque converter??
My 2004 A6 2.7T 50,000 miles is in the shop right now for a tc replacement. Dealer says 24 hours labor and AAA Extended warranty is saying 12 hours labor? Which is right? Why would they be so far off? Other posts here suggest that 15 hours is typical for a tc replacement.
Is the dealer ripping me off?
Thanks for any ideas.

The PO did this on my car at 72,000. The car needed the TC and he had a reconditioned tranny service with a rebuilt exchanged TC. The reciept doesn't have hours but the bill was $2693.
Hey Catdog - sounds like you got a pretty good deal. After further checking I was able to fnd out that the Chilton book says 16.7 hours labor to replace the torque converter. After going back and forth with the Dealer and warranty company for 4 days, they finally came down to 17 hours labor and the AAA wanrranty guys matched it. They are going to cover MOST of it.
Strange, Boardwalk Audi here in Dallas, started with a quote of 24 hours labor to do the job, but ended up with 17 hours. At $128 per hour, that's about a $900 drop from the original price. What's up with that??? Am I missing something, or did Boardwalk Audi try to screw me??
Thanks for the reply. Enjoy the Hill Country. It's beautiful this time of year.

WHy did you end up replacing the TC? Not to sure on what year A6s, but I know that the 2.7 usually have to convert the transmission from a 6 discs clutch to a 7 discs because of the tranny slipping. Tell me how it goes after the repairs?
Got my A6 back after about two weeks at the dealer. Most of the time was working on the price. Actual work took about two days. Car is running good so far. The only reason I replaced the TC was because the dealer said it needed it. The engine light came on and the error code said TC. What else could it have been?
AAA Warranty covered most of it, so I did not fight it too much (other than the covered cost).
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks!
