Default Flat Spots While Accelerating

I sent my 2001 A6 4.2 QT in for a service yesterday and when I took the car home last night, I noticed there were flat spots when accelerating, they only seem to occur when I go over 4500rpm and the car shudders and then the ABS and ESP lights in the dash come on. I took the car back this morning and they told me the air mass meter was faulty and this has only now come to light after replacing the air filter as the old one was extremely dirty

I want to know if this is possible ?

If not, what could be the cause ?

It was a simple 90k km service, oil, air filter, cabin filter, rear brake pads

Sometimes it take 2-3 trips before you can get things right. Audi service folks are not that smart...atleast they were unable to fix couple of my issues the first or second time. Good Luck
