Default freeze out plug?

I have a 2000 a6 2.7t and have a mass coolant leak. I brought it to a shop and they searched all over and said they think its a freeze out plug above the tranny and said the tranny has to get pulled. Does this sound right to you guys?

I had the same thing. They thought it was a glow plug too. I had my coolant freeze and ended up replacing the whole system anyway, but I think the glow plug they thought it was, was actually the aux water pump. I had another leak in the back too which turned out to be a cracked bell housing. The tranny has to come out for this one.
