RE: Front Speakers
I have a 2000 model so not sure it's the same, but on mine, there are two screws at the top of the door. Open the door as wide as it will go and you'll see the one screw near where the wing mirror is located and the other at the opposite end of the door (still at the top). Undo these (be careful as they're only stubby blighters).
Then pull the whole door card up (gently) and it will come away from the door. This allows access to the speakers and connectors etc.
Can I ask how you managed to blow the speakers? I thought I'd blown one ofmy tweeters as it was crackling, but it turns out it was just an iffy connnection. I coated the connectors in WD40 and the problem went away.
Good look old chap.

RE: Front Speakers
I blew both of my front speakers as soon as I got the car. I listen to country music so I'm not really sure how that happened. I ended up buying some Polks, making a braket out of 1/8 inch board, andscrewing them to the stock location.

RE: Front Speakers
I would have had to buy an adapter plate for the bolt pattern, or screw pattern. I didnt feel like spending money on something I could make in 5 minutes for free. I didnt really shop around for speakers to find if any fit exactly. I got these because they sound good and had a thickness that would work in the door panel.
