Mine goes up automatically (at a set amount) when a window is opened. If I close the window, it goes down. It accounts for inceased wind noise. This isn't much but your problem may be related to this feature.

I think there is a feature on the head unit that accounts for road noise. I forget the name...rds? Anyway, you should be able to turn it off to get a consistent volume.

Hmmm, Im not sure if the A6 has a speed controled volume setting, but I know RDS is a mode to receive information from radio stations. And if it only happens sometimes, there is more than likely a problem with the receiver

I think you are talking about the GALA feature of BOSE Symphony. I guess it stands for gradual audio level adjuster or something. You can disable the feature, or change the senstivity to the highest point, and it should solve the problem. I never had a problem, so never touched it. Do you have a Audio manual for your car?

Oh how I can't wait for my manual to come in, you could imagine how annoying this this: I get my new (for me) Audi and want to set up the whole car and check out diffrent features but ........no manual[:@] I once drove an 1998 A4 for a while, I remember little, but it's mostly diffrent anyway

Let us know what you find out. I have an '03 and don't hear any difference when windows go up/down or under acceleration. I have the Bose Premium sound system.

Some Bose radios have the VSS adjusting volume (a.k.a.audio pilot)and some have the noise volume adjusting feature. I believe you have to hold one of the buttons for about 5 seconds or so and there should be a main menu screen so you can adjust all these features but its different on all the radios.

Now if your volume is really irratic like your stationary and the volume keeps going up and down when your not doing anything then there is something wrong with the headunit, which isn't un-common.
