Default Have to change thermostat on 2000 Audi A6 4.2

Hi guys! I have to change my thermostat again. I live in a small city in Alberta and I had a shop do the 150,000 km timing belt service change that audi recommends as my thermostat went at 125,000km. Well it turns out that my car is overheating and the thermostat went again and the shop that did it had the timing off so it was always missfiring. So I bought the tools to do the job because I can't rent them here in Canada. So now the guy who is working on my wife"s car said that he needs instructions on how to do the timing belt change so he can line it up properly because he wan'ts to do it right. My wife's car has already been siting for the last 2 weeks until the tools got here and if I order the Bentley manual now it will take another 2 weeks to get here. I was wondering if anybody has the instructions for the timing belt change it would help me out so much because my wife is pretty bummed out that her car isn't running and that it is taking so long. Thanks!

I am not familiar with the 4.2 engine, but this 3.0 engine TB replacement guide may be the closest help you can find around. I don't remember coming across a write-up for a 4.2L engine.
I could be wrong though. good luck.

P.S. Since the shop screwed up on the timing, why don't you take it back to have it done for free? (just curious)

Here's one for the 2.7T engine: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng39.shtml

The write up on the 2.7 or 2.8L is the closest you are going to get to a 4.2L. The only real difference between the V6 and V8 is the 4.2L uses a different cam lock bar. Everything else is pretty identical.

if the timing was off you should get a mil light, your problem could be head gasket that would cause a misfire and overheating. have you pulled the plugs to check for blown head gasket. just a thought.

If your getting into this yourself and since it won't be the last problem the car has you should buy a repair manual at www.bentleypublishers.com or www.blauparts.com
it comes on DVD.

They are about $100 but well worth it.
