Default Help with Key Fobs and Programming

Hi all. When I bought my Audi almost a month ago the seller told me that the key fobs needed new batteries to function. I went to buy them but the key fob didn't work. I checked the position of the batteries and they were placed just as the fob specifies. My question is where I can purchase another pair. What also concerns me is how to program them since neither one works even with new batteries. Thank you all for your help.

Autozone can test if the keyfob is working, if the new batteries are good. If they are working then usually all you have to do in unlock the car with the key then start the car. Turn the car off and try to lock and unlock the car with the remote withing 30 seconds. It may take a few tries but this usually does the job. If you are not adding a new key fob then this is all you should need to do.

I found out neither of them work. Since I'm buying new ones what would the programming procedures be?

2001 A6 - you have an immobilizer, lucky thing is that assuming the fobs/keys you have start the car, the lion's share of issues are taken care of (getting new keys cut, and the immobilizer programmed). If the fobs you have did work the locks remotely at one time, you can get the part number for them and get new ones. The fobs come apart in two pieces - there's a small slot in the back where you can twist a screwdriver to remove the key/immobilizer chip half from the remote half. The part number is printed on the back of the remote section that fits into the key section - it should be something like 8Z0 837 231E. Whatever yours are, that's what you need to match exactly. I buy mine from these folks - AUDI REMOTE FLIP KEY KEYLESS ENTRY FOB TRANSMITTER | eBay - call the phone number at the bottom of the page and they can make sure you get the right ones. I bought two brand new ones from them for about $60 each. Plus, unlike, e-bay, they come with a warranty.

Oh yeah, and programming then can be done right from the driver's door lock - just search this forum for "remote programming" and you should find many posts with how to do this.
