The good news is you should be pre-wired for Nav unit in the trunk. The bad news is that you are not pre-wired for the satelite attena on the roof. You will either have to take the car apart to run a line to the satelite attena, or you will have to use one of those cheesy after market satelite attenas.

I have a 2006 a6 and have the navigation button as well but no current navigation installed. I am wondering if I all I need is a cd or what else I need to get nav in my car.

You need to have the hardware unit installed in the trunk. There is a mini computer rack on the left hand side. You then need to purchase the software from Navtech. Because the car was not ordered with the Nav unit the Satelite antena on the roof is not wired for the Nav unit. Therefore you will either have to run a wire to the antena or get an aftermarket cheesy satelite antena. The total price to have the dealer install it will run you about $2500. If you do it yourself, the parts will run you about $2,000.

Kevin, mine is a wagon...so where is the 'hardware rack'? also is there any chance the wire is already in the antenna? and if not where does it run to (front or back of car) and do you have any audi part numbers?
thanks so much

Audi did not wire the antenas unless the car came with the NAV unit. I don't know where the rack is in the Avant. Take a look on the left handside of the rear of the car and see if it has some time of door or hatch.
