I got an used 01 A6 2.7t with 39k miles and I am wondering if it is chipped or if it had been chipped? Is there a way to find this out?

Yes,

there are 3 ways

1 if you have a vag com log 115 and let us know what it reads at full throttle
2 pull out the ECU look on the out side of the box there might be a sticker (from the tuning)on it if it has a old chip
3 this is more of a check to see if the ECU was removed doesn't always mean that there is or is not a chip installed.................check the big black box that holds the ECU in. Check the cover there should be like 5 screws in it.......if the ECU has been removed the very back screw might be missing
