Default i am having some trouble!!!

the problem is that the ignition lights on the dash are still on and the engine still runs when the keys have been taken out of the ignition switch. Found that only means of total shut down is when reverse is selected. Aparently a small electrical current is still going to ignition, have been told all of this by an autoelectrician that has been dealing with the problem but is finding it difficult to trace fault as he doesnt possess a wiring diagram for an a6 1.9tdi. Checked out various other audi specialists but nobody has experienced this type of fault. Can you help?

I think someone posted on this maybe 6 months ago on the A4 section.

The ignition switch ground wire was shorting out the ignition switch.

You should be able to find it on the search. Totally and obviously an ignition switch problem. But check into the switches wiring if replacing the switch does not work.

Why does it shut off when you go to reverse? Because your starter is only supposed to work in Park and neutral. Have you previously had headlight problems? THat is the first sign and people just avoid it.

Thanks for replying! Its a manual transmission, have been told any small current backfeeding to the ignition is enough to cause this problem and by engaging reverse lights drains the current going to the transmission.

So frustrated!! even audi specialists cant help!! gettin ready to scrap it!!! lol

Ooo manual.
Could you shut it off with pushing the brakes too? I think that was how the other guy who posted on this was doing it.

Waiting for the autoelectrician to get back to me, he is trying to obtain a wiring diagram to find what other sources are powered up from ignition in case a short is causing a small live feed tracking back to the ignition and is enough to keep the ignition running.

As soon as the problem is sorted i will let you know the cause as i have a dozen other specialists that have never come across this.

Thanks for all of your help, Paul
