Default Installing AMI on 2006 A6 - Can it be done?

I wanted to install the ami module on my 2006 a6 Quattro with nav according to the following instructions AMI/IPOD Retrofit for Audi MMI: March 2008

I talked to someone who was selling a ami retrofit kit and he told me that I cannot do the ami retrofit because my car is too old and wouldn't support it. He said I had to have a 2007 or newer car. Is this true? Any resources on which kit I should buy if I am able to do it?

What hill billie told you, you can't? You could if you have the High MMI which it sound like you do. First things first, you'll need to update the SW(software) to 46.1.0 and also the NAV DVD to Newer then 2005. I'll provide you the links. After the updates are done, just install AMI and your good to go.

If you haven't bought your unit yet I found a new retrofit unit at a very low price on eBay it's coming from the UK. It's the full kit everything you need.
Converted Euro to Dollars it's about $346 US dollar that includes shipping. One hell of a price. AMI Unit part #'s that are compatible are as: 4E0035785B, 4E0035785F and 4E0057785F. Make sure that it's the MOST not the CAN.

Make sure that A6/C6 SW is up to date. If not here's a link for them:

Burn them on a Sony CD's if you have Q's just read the link and you don't need 3360 just go straight to 4610.

I have 06/A6/C6 Quattro 4.2L S-Line and I'm AMI User. Damn hill billies.

Thank you very much for your informative and detailed post. I really appreciate it. I actually ended up buying the unit from that seller as that was the best price I could find, and he was very responsive when I asked him questions regarding compatibility. The shipping price did go up a bit when I went to check out, but not by much.

I did try the link to download the MMI update, however it appears the download link for the ISO is no longer working. Do you know another way I can obtain the files/discs?

I have downloaded the Navigation DVD ISO. Thank you for that.

I eventually want to play audi via bluetooth. Do you know where I can find the bluetooth audio adapter as well? I saw one on amazon but it was almost $200. I was trying to pick one up for less than that. Thanks again!

You could purchase the disks from your local dealer. Believe it or not they are cheap, around $10-$15 per disk. You probably need 2. See this link, it has part numbers

http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2607361

And if you purchase them you do not need to worry about a corrupted torrent archive trashing your MMI.

Ok, so I am going to do the MMI, Navi, and then AMI install today. I just wanted to make sure I am doing this correctly so I dont mess the system up. I am following the instructions on the link from the audizine forum.

On my 06 A6, my MMI version is 11.90.

I have read somewhere that you also have to check the bluetooth version before updating. Is this something that is included in the discs?

After verifying the bluetooth issue I plan to:

1. Start the car and Remove all CD's, and unpair all phones. Disable speed warning.
2. Insert the AB Disc first in slot 1 of the disc changer and follow the update process to 3360
3. Update using Disc 1 and 2
4. Install the AMI

Hopefully all goes well.

Check Off list:

1) Check
2) Check [ In case you panic. (3360 might not work 'cause you'll need CD 2240 or something like. Don't panic. Insert 4610 CD1 then CD2. Then run CD1 again.)].
3) Check
4) Check

You'll do fine, make sure you have enough gas and movies on the ipad or iphone to watch while your doing this.(2hrs10min)

Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, much appreciated. I forgot to ask about the new NAV disc DVD I burned, do I put that in first before doing the MMI update or would that be afterwards.

Will I also be OK with the bluetooth issue or do I have to update that first?
