Intermitent central locking fault

Intermitent central locking fault
Hi.
I have a 1998 Audi A6 2.4 2wd. There has been an intermitent locking fault with various manifestations.
1. There is an intermitent problem with the remote key. Sometimes it locks/unlocks the doors. Sometimes it doesn't.
2. When using the key manually, occassionally the front door will not unlock. This might happen five or six times in a single day, and then no problems for ages. When it happens, I have to rotate the key to the right so the windows come down, and then unlock the door internally.
3. Have had a similar problem with the boot refusing to open with the key. However, the boot unlocked OK from inside the car.
It seems to me these problems might have a common cause. Anyone got any ideas?

RE: Intermitent central locking fault
The common problem is the key transmitters, check the battery in the remote, if the charge is better than 3v's then replace the remote. If less than 3v change the battery.
If that doesn't fix it (which is un-likely) you need to replace the central locking control module.

Intermittent Locking / Unlocking
I have ghostly locking and unlocking of doors. The root problem appears to be the cable in the trunk. When the trunk opens or closes the tension on the harness seems to trigger the locking system. By squeezing with my fingers I can cause the locking and unlocking or continued locking or unlocking in sequence. The cable travels along the left side of the trunk lid when you are viewing in an open position. It is securely fastened.
Can this cable be replaced? Is there a wiring schematic for this? Thanks again for the advice.
