Just bought an 2001 a6 2.7t and have a question
Well it's got 90k on the clock and I was wondering if the timing belt had been done. Pulled the cover and it looks good and the I noticed a sticker on the hood but it had no date on it, was it a factory sticker. Thanks for any help
yes, that is a factory sticker. if an official audi service place does the timing belt, they have like a metal stampy thingy that they use to mark that blank shiny spot (that is my understanding anyway).
It is close to impossible to diagnose whether the timing service has been done by "peeking" at the belt. Some good indications are if the cams/crank/block have been marked for re-alignment.
most of "our" timing failures are not a direct result of the belt breaking. most failures occur when the tensioner, idler roller, or waterpump fail and cause the belt to break which results in "valve salad".
'01 at 90K miles and not being able to confirm, absolutely, beyond any doubt, that the belt and components have been changed is a definite gamble.
i recommend getting it taken care of asafp
good luck
