Lost my flip key now i only have the valet key the small plastic black one.... since the car has an immobilzer can i have a locksmith come out and cut a key for me or do i have no choice but to go to the dealer?? Any help thanks... i oredered a key fob off ebay with an uncutblade 03 A6 3.0 quattro

 

I think you have to go to the dealer. I don't think a locksmith can do the computer chip in the key.

 

Locksmith could probably cut the key but i doubt they could program it for you.

 

Locksmiths cant help you. You must go to an Authorized Audi Dealer

 

Generally if you have keys (cut) you could be able to reprogram the remote (only) by yourself.
Will not be able to start the car.
The immobilizer reprogramming could be done only by dealers!

Check the Audi dealers for price.
Check VW dealers if they could sell you key and reprogram it (their prices are much cheaper).

 

The immobilizer is only in 02 and up correct? I recently bought a spare on ebay and was hoping to just get it cut and program it myself instead of going to dealer.

 

The Owners manual states the procedure to reprogram the remote.
Unless you have the KSC, you will end up in the dealership for the immobilizer.

 

The immobilizer is present in earlier B5s but wasn't activated until after 2002 I believe. You could get a lock smith to cut a key for you and see if it'll start. On my 2000 S4 the dealer told me I'd have to come in to have it programmed but the locksmith had a big fat reference book that said otherwise. After the key was cut it started right up. It might be similar for the A6s.
