Default MIL & electrical smell

Came home today, car running fine but noticed a hot electrical smell but couldn't find it.
Wife left this evening and came back with MIL flashing and car running rough with low power and hot electric smell.
I know I need a VAG COM and software, ebay the best?
But I need to get the car running asap.
Questions:
1. What do you think it may be?
2. I live 20 miles froman indy mechanic, is it safe to drive that far?

I am not trying to scare you, but anything can happen within 20 miles.... so, if it is the only way...carry a fire extinguisher. Has the JC recall been done on your A6?? People those who had fire in the car first noticed the smell and smoke from the driver side of he dashboard - near the headlamp switch.

Yeah, I read those threads. There is a piece of felt on the metal to the right of the fuse box. The PO was the original owner and always used the dealer so I guess it was done.

Don't guess. Dealers are known for not covering all the recalls. A Ford dealer here is in law suite because he ignored the recall on the brakes on one Expedition here in Virginia, and that car met with an accident last month... I hope, you get the picture.

I would call them and ask if any recalls are pending onthe car...

The smell seems to becoming from the engine compartment. Guessing it has something to do with the check light.

Driving a blinking MIL is a no no. If it just stays on, I wouldn't worry that much, but if it is blinking, then it usually means there is something critically wrong with it.

For your safety and wallet, I say you call a tow truck.

I had a few extra minutes left over with Miss Cleo and I thought what the hell, I'll help out a fellow Audi owner. She seems to think after a long gaze into her crystal ball that your problems are coming from.....sit down, brace yourself....your car is seeing someone else.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Jeff
