Default N00b here, question about brake lights

So I bought a 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro today (yay me) and overall the car is in good shape. Needs a few interior plastic bits here and there, but I have already found them and my total cost is like $220 so that rocks.

My question is about brake lights. They don't work. LOL. I have checked the bulbs. They are fine. I also checked the fuse, and it is fine as well.

Not really sure on this what to check next (wiring I presume), but not sure where to start. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be Fantastic

Change the brake light switch.

Any abs brake signs on the dash? The orange ESP light?

If you stick your head down in the drivers foot well, and look up at your brake peddle you should see a switch connected to it up near the top. That'll be the switch budhani786 is on about.

Brake switch was my next step and I have a flashing brake light on dash, but it looked like the brake fluid might be a bit low as well, so I need to go get some of that

I suspect the ABS module is out as well however...

if the ABS module is out, it should give you the dreaded "three beeps" along with the flashing brake light.

I'm with the other guys on the brake switch. cheap and easy to replace. if that doesn't do it, then move on to the more complicated/expensive

Went with the brake switch, got it replaced and now I have the middle brake light (rear window) but no other brake lights. As mentioned, bulbs are good, fuse is good, where do I go next? voltmeter/tester
