Need Advice PLEASE
I am interested in buying a 1999 audi a6 quattro wagon, the asking price is about$2,200. A pick n pull is selling it and they don't have any maintenance or service info, they say it needs a new transmission and that is it. The car starts but emits a funny sound, it does not run they say, because of the bad transmission but when i tried to make a shift there is absolutely no sound or reaction from the car. Should i buy it, all the extras work great and it looks pretty impecable but im worried about the cost of making it run and then maintenance costs. Please help me!

This is very risky, especially if you don't know what you're buying / don't know much about the brand. This could be an issue with the torque converter / many other things. I would budget between $2,000 to $3,500 to be on the safe side for transmission work on it.

are you going to be doing the work yourself? if not I would think that by the time you pay someone to make what you know is wrong with the car right you will have spent more than the car is worth and if after making it runnable you find other issues you will really be overinvested in it.

No, I wouldn't do the work myself as I don't really have experience with that and thanks, I think I'll stay on the safe side and not take such a risk in a car that might end up being a lemon and not such a great deal after all. Thank You
