Hi All,

I just bought a 2004 Audi A6 2.7t S-Line. Its a great car from what ive experienced so far but I do still have a few questions.

1) The dealership only had the valet key so I have to get a new Key Fob made. Did all 04 2.7t come with a Key Fob? If I buy one online will I have to go to the dealership to get it programmed or can I do it on my own? What about getting the key cut(dealership or any locksmith)?

2)Using the valet key i can lock all the doors but the trunk doesnt lock. And the valet key does not fit into the truck key hole either. Is there another way to lock the trunk or is the key fob needed?

3)I need to reset the time on the cluster computer. My car didnt come with a manual so I cant figure out how. How do I go about resetting the time.

4)Are there other functions that the cluster computer has? I remember when I test drove a 2001 S4 the cluster would tell MPG estimates and some other functions. Will this car do the same?

2) By definition, valet keys give access to the cabin (so the valet can drive the vehicle) but not the trunk (so you can lock up your valuables and the valet can't steal them). Of course, if you have the split rear seat, you have to lock them too else the valet just goes into the trunk from the inside.

 

To access your computer functions push up and down on the button sticking out of your right hand stalk. it tells MPG, Range, Instant MPG etc.

 

2) Well there is also a button on the inside to open the trunk lol...Would the trunk lock when I lock the door using the valet key? My trunk always seems to stay unlocked

3-4)The right hand stock is the one that resets the trip computer right?

 

The dealership that sold you the car should provide the keyfob and program it for you at no charge. There might even be some federal law covering that issue...

have them order it from the Audi dealer and pay for it. then drive to the Audi delaer and pick it up/have it coded. these puppies are maybe 200$ each!
I bought my 04 A6 fomr a Ford dealership. They had the valet key, wallet plastic key, both keyfobs but one did not work. They ordered it from Audi and paid for it. I just went to pick it up at the Audi dealer as they do the coding

 

Well I already bought a key off ebay and just need to get it cut and coded.

Also for the computer im still not able to get MPG and range information the right stalk only seems to reset the trip meter. The left does the clock and autocheck

Lastly what MPG should i expect to get mixed? My first tank only gave me 250 miles.

 

Also is the computer supposed to display outside temps? All I see on my the center screen is the gear I'm in, no mpg, no temp, so basically just the the bottom quarter of the screen is the only part displaying anything.
