and I have the safe message, no stereo manual. Would an aftermarket head unit fit or would I need an adapter? this is for a 98' A6, by the way.

 

what is this some stupidly obvious question? the stereo looks wider than regular aftermarket units, would I need spacers for it to fit?

 

anybody have a clue as to what are the 2 buttons you have to push to get input the code for the stereo? I have the stereo pictured above, also to unlock it from safe mode, does the car have to be on or key in the ignition or what?

 

you need a stereo/dash kit, the height is the same as a aftermarket unit but the width is the problem. you can get the plate on ebay for like 15 bucks.
