Default New Here - Am I getting Hosed - Need Advice

Hows it goin everyone. I might be buying a 2001 A6 2.7T with 47,000 miles on it, with a 6 speed tranny and its black on black for 16,000. I know the person that had it before might have done some mods to it considering there is a dif. grill and its debadged. So my question, should I look out for anything or take it to audi to get a whole service check? I told the dealer that I wouldnt buy it unless the timing belt and water pump were replaced, I know it only has 47,000 miles but better be safe then sorry. Ive seen them go out on s4's at 32,000.

But again, is this a good buy and should I look out (ask questions) about anything on the car to the dealer?

Thanks everyone.

Oh and If i do purchase the car, I plan on removing pre-cats/ add open downpipes, full cat back exhaust, and some sort of chip. That will make it a stage 2 correct? Whats the best chip? Anything else that can crank up the power? Thanks

I personally wouldn't bother with the timing belt this early - most are done at 75-80k and I did mine at 95k. I suggest you knock the price down another $1000 and put the grand in the bank (earning interest) for when you need the TB done. Get the maintenance records from the dealer - that will tell you what has been done on the car. If it has been modded by changing the ECU (chipping), the dealer should easily be able to tell.Your best precaution is to find a good independent who knows Audis and have them fully inspect the vehicle. Even if it costs you a hundred, it could save thousands.

And check Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com) for comparative pricing.
