Question Help. Am I getting hosed on a brake job???

So I take my 2006 A6 4.2L S-line w/ sport package to get new brake pads & rotors installed last Friday to a non dealer shop and boy has that turned into a nightmare so far. The shop tells me late Friday afternoon that they ran into trouble w/ 1 rear caliper not retracting enough to install on new rotors w/ new pads and that they believe the caliper is the problem. They say they will have to replace the caliper for $550. I get a loaner and today (Monday) they tell me they ran into the same problem with the other rear caliper and will have to order a replacement for that one as well.

This shop supposedly does good work but sounds to me like they screwed something up in the removal/install of the rotors. I found a post here that said that if the e-brake wasn't disengaged & vag software used that calipers could be messed up if not done right so wondering if this is what happened and they are trying to shift their problem to me?

Any thoughts/advice here? Could what they say be right (2 calipers that are 4 years old failing to retract enough for new rotors & pads and having to be replaced with new ones) and if so would something like that be covered if the car is a CPO w/ warranty left?

Are new calipers the only option to fix this or would rebuilding be safe if that's an option?

Thanks!
