Newbie with some questions about 4.2
I have the 4.2 and love it! You can't beat the sound or performance of a V8. I have stock exhaust and it sounds amazing. I want to put some aftermarket exhaust on but don't want to spend a small fortune to do so. The only bad thing about the 4.2 is the price to do aftermarket parts. They are all more expensive. I like mine stock just the way it is. Plenty of power and everyone compliments on the flares and the overall look and stance of the car. I recommend them!! Enjoy whatever you get though!
I own a 2001 4.2 w/ the sport package and love it. I was going to purchase a 2001 S6 wagon. (didnt even get to discuss numbers. some dude bought it over the phone while I was standing there with my sales guy [:@] Anyways, the S6 has 30 more HP and you can definitley feel it. The tranny in the 4.2 is somewhat lazy and likes to "think" before shifting. The S6 seemed much more responsive in this respect. Then, I drove the 2.7t and was impressed with the power but the suspension and tire size was weak. Of course, this can be changed but I consider the "Out of the Box" performance as a good platform before modifying. Then, I drove a 2001 S4 automatic which was quite disspointing. That car was built to be a manual. So, I have my 4.2 and love it. The exhaust and sway bars is a good start, but all the forums here and other places I've researched say that your better off leaving the motor/tranny alone--better reliability. So, if you are looking to get crazy HP and 300 doesnt do it for ya, buy the 2.7t with the sport package.
