Yep its the cam tensioner seals and valve cover gasket, the dealer will rip your *** off if you take it to them because they charge to remove the timing belt and camshafts, the secret is to remove the valve cover, buy the cheap tool for compressing the tensioner and rolling over the cams so you can gain access to the cam seal with a small 90 degree angle pick. There is a small half moon seal and a flat gasket that goes under the adjuster, it may take some time, but the parts are really cheap. Its better than paying over a thousand dollars to do and you really don't have to mess with the timing.

I've been looking into it more lately and I can definitely see some more white smoke as well as an odour I haven't had before when I start the car.

I guess its time to see what an indy shop can do this for or start getting my sleeves dirty.
About how long can I drive with this problem?

As long as you like and for as long as you can stand the smell. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

Smell isn't too bad and doesn't happen often. Just at some stoplights.
I think i'll leave well enough alone while checking oil level for the next 2 weeks till a buddy who is an Audi tech comes back into town and can provide some help. I'd like to have someone there who is more experienced just in case.

Don't know how much oil i'd stand to lose but i'll keep a close eye over the next few days. Nothing dripping underneath in the parking spot though.
