yea that is probably pretty close because it does take a couple hours at least per side.....If you are mechanically inclined or have ever done your own brakes and have some tools needed you can probablydo it yourself and save almost 500 bucks. I have some links with directions (and of course pictures)to followif you are interested.

Sounds about right, try to get $ 75 off since he's already making good profit from your brakes/ rotors.

FYI - the mechanic has to remove the front axles to replace the outer (or inner CV boots) unless he attempts to use split boots - which are not recommended because they can fail within weeks. To remove the axles he has to poop off the lower ball joint.

Since your going that far it would be wiser touse remanufactured (rebuilt) axles for about $125 each sidewhere you get new inner and outer boots. Additionally they save some mechanic's bench time because all he needs to do is remove the old axle and put the new one in place.

Second the motion to use rebuild axle assemblies. In addition to the easier installation, you generally get a lifetime warranty, meaning you will at least get the axle for free if a boot splits again. The replacement is sounds easier than it really is.

I just had my CV done on my S4. Total price for parts and labor was right under $300 and he charges $90/hr.
