Possible wrong oil?

Possible wrong oil?
I posted a question yesterday and was told i should use synthetic oil in a 2003 Audi A6 Quattro (3.0) which is what i thought... but the problem appears here...when we got the car home (just test driving it) there wasn't any oil touching the dip stick and no warning lights are on so we called the dealer and he said \ to put regular 10w-30 oil in it (which at the time we didn't know what to put in it, no owners manual) and that if we buy it they will service it. My question, i guess, is that if the car should have synthetic oil it it, but has been getting regular oil could it be burning the regular oil quicker?

Let me clarify:
You've got an used Audi, with ..... mileage from an Audi dealer with oil deficiency?
Any maintenance records?
Is the car a CPO?
One could run any type of oil (climate wise) but the drainage interval gets affected.

it has 59,800 miles. Not an Audi dealer. CPO? the car fax indicates that it has had 2 owners one in Florida and one in Missouri and I'm in South carolina and was getting in from a local dealership..just kinda worried about the oil thing. Wasn't too sure if it could just be that it need to be serviced or if something major (in which case of course i don't want to buy it).

CPO=Certified Pre-Owned
Pertaining to your question about the oil. ANY oil will do, especially on a short term basis like this. Just make sure there is something in there otherwise it will eat up your engine! So again, please, please just put something in there. If you have access to nice full synth oil, then by all means, if you have some 10w-30 sitting in your garage put it in so the car does not start grinding.
Audi's don't burn that much oil so i wouldn't expect it to be as low as you say it is, again, just put some in and get it serviced.

like nm3210 said, on a short term basis anything will do, but i would try and find out if u can, what type of oil they normal put in ur car for that year at the dealer ship...IE if the engine was broken in using synthetic oil then u should stick with synthetic, if it used regular oil...use regular...be it as its an 03 i would say synthetic is what it had in it off the assembly line but feel free to take what i say with a grain of salt
