Possibly buying A6... please help

RE: Possibly buying A6... please help Carfax
I don't have Carfax, but can run Autochecks. It looks clean, no salvage title, no accident history - no reposessions etc.
Vehicle: 2002 Audi A6 Quattro (WAULD64B02N030912)
[snip] If you want a full history, I'd suggest spending a few bucks to get the full report. I don't want to cheat anyone out of anything, but the bottom line is the car is clean.

Let us know how things turned out. Even the best Autocheck or Carfax report won't tell you everything, so I hope you still look the car over and/or have your mechanic look it over as well. One thing Autocheck/Carfax will never tell you is how well the previous owner(s) maintained the car - and I would argue that is often much more important than a minor accident history.
If you are lucky and they serviced the car an a Audi dealer you might be able to learn something. If they were like many of us and they used independent shops outside of warranty coverage, you might be on your own, but any local mechanic should be ale to do a full checkup on the car and tell you if there are any concerns. My local shop did a full check including looking for past trouble codes (there were none), and the only thing they found was a small tear in one of the axle boots and a belly pan that was missing some hardware. I had them replacethe boot, fix up the belly pan,and do a Mobil 1 oil change and the total cost was under $400. That isn't too bad when you consider the security of knowing the car is in good condition.
