This probably sounds stupid, but how do I get my wheel back on?

Default This probably sounds stupid, but how do I get my wheel back on?

I got a nasty flat the other day on my (German spec) 1999 Audi A6. I took the rim off to put the spare on but the bolts won't thread back in. I thought maybe I'd miraculously sheared all 5 bolts but I looked at replacement bolts online and they're the same length as the ones I have. The holes in the hub aren't threaded, are seemingly too shallow for the bolts to go all the way in, and their diameter is wider than the bolts. So, yeah, I feel like a retard but to me there is no apparent way of putting my spare on. Can somebody please lend me some insight? I'd really prefer to not have hire a tow truck or have a mechanic come to my house to look at when it should be a simple fix. Thanks in advance.

the older models has differen bolts for alloy rims and metal rims. Bolts for alloy rims is longer then for regular metal wheel (may be donat - spair tyre).

The spare is full size but the problem isn't with the wheel, it's the hub on the axle. The bolts seemingly have nothing to thread into. I'll post pictures when I can.

There are 10 holes on the hub (actually the rotor "hat")...so when you are mounting a wheel you might be lining up to the holes in the rotor hat that are not lined up with the hub's threaded holes. Just rotate the wheel a bit in one direction so you can line up to the other 5 holes...the correct 5 holes...

Check out this link...about half way down there is a great picture that shows you what I am talking about...the new rotor is installed with the 5 bolts threaded into the correct holes, and the other 5 holes too shallow and no threads.

Hope this helps!!!

Well that did it. Like I said, I feel like a retard for not figuring that out. Thank you so much for your help. Now I don't have to pay 30 euro for somebody to tell me that on top of the $400 for new tires.

This is the tire I had to replace, I thought maybe some of you would like to see just how bad it was shredded. No idea how it happened, it made the car shake like hell but I went ahead and drove the last mile home since there's nowhere to pull over and change a tire in Germany

They were Goodyear tires. As you can see they were getting worn down a bit. The road I was on was pretty bumpy and it was dark so no idea if I hit something on the road or if it was a pothole or what. I didn't notice the flat until I got off the bumpy road and it was still bumpy haha.
