Default Question, TOTAL Audi n00b!

This is my first Audi after 2 BMW's so I'm completely new to them.

I got a VERY good deal on my 2001 A6 2.7T with 82K.... But the check engine light is on. I got an O2 sensor fixed, then the other one went out and they said that it pulled another code.

It was some actuator, he said that word and associated it with timing. Anyone have some insight before I get the actual codes?

THANKS!

Autozone will pull your codes for free. But expect them to try and sell you parts.

Ok, I found the codes that I found in the very beginning. I will be running them again this week sometime with a friend VERY familiar to Audis.

P1529 and P1131. The O2 sensor one was fixed, then apparently the other Bank 2 sensor went out....

P1529 is the cam shaft control circuit short. P1131 is bank 2 O2 sensor.

As for the P1529, did someone recently do a timing belt replacement on your car?

I'm not sure, I just got it. Is there a way to tell? If they did or didn't, how does it affect that code?

THANKS YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!

Camshaft control circuit codes are typically (but not always) related to bad timing belt job. These motors are pretty finiky and will throw a code if the cam gears are off by a tooth.

BTW it is somewhat hard to tell if the timing belt was replaced recently. You maybe able to tell by poping open the belt cover, but it will be hard to tell.

What are the ways to fix it? Is it an expensive fix, or just a new belt job?
