I've scoured the net looking for aftermarket intake & exhaust options for my 4.2

After little success I just had a custom catback exhaust built (but kept the stock resonator) by a local muffler guy who's built me a great custom system before on my previous car, and I'm extremely happy with the results again now with the audi. I couldnt believe just how heavy those damn OEM mufflers were, and huge! New setup must have saved 30+lbs my best guesstimate at least. Plus its high, tight, and straight through.

More aggressive sound upon startup (makes me giggle every time) but not obnoxious, quiet as stock when cruising freeway at low rpms and sounds like a v8 should, when I step on it (a deep, throaty rumble).

Still looking for an intake option..

What size pipe did you use for your exhaust? I'll hook up the intakes once I'm done with the prototype

Hi all,

First post.

I have a 2000 4.2 that's been pretty much rebuilt. It has RS6 exhaust (we took the middle boxes back off as they were SOO loud!) which is all custom fitted to the under body. It sounds wonderful and it has a little more mid range whoomph than the standard pipes. 3rd gear is absolutely lethal on the LA canyons!
It also has RS6 brakes and uprated suspension. It really is a damn fine car and for what I paid it's just silly as the engine was rebuilt by an specialist Audi guy and almost everything was replaced.
I'm about to have the MAF sensor replaced and then I should be back to happy "no check light" running again.

Cheers.

GM

Sorry mate. I thought you spoke English!

Allow me to translate:

I have a 2000 4.2 that's been pretty much rebuilt.

Means: I bought a year 2000 Audi A6 4.2 that the previous owner had done considerable (lots) of work on.

It has RS6 exhaust (we took the middle boxes back off as they were SOO loud!) which is all custom fitted to the under body. It sounds wonderful and it has a little more mid range whoomph than the standard pipes. 3rd gear is absolutely lethal on the LA canyons!

Means: It has the exhaust system from an Audi RS6 minus the middle sections. This is because there is almost no performance advantage with the center boxes and the car is a lot noisier with those center sections fitted. It was fitted by a specialist as the RS6 exhaust is not designed for a "standard" 4.2 and requires careful installation. However, the exhaust does seem to offer slightly more mid range power and driving around the canyons between LA and the Pacific Coast Highway using 3rd gear is very nice.

It also has RS6 brakes and uprated suspension. It really is a damn fine car and for what I paid it's just silly as the engine was rebuilt by an specialist Audi guy and almost everything was replaced.

Means: It has the braking system and uprated suspension from an Audi RS6 fitted and many other modifications and extensive replacement parts. I got it at a really good price.

I'm about to have the MAF sensor replaced and then I should be back to happy "no check light" running again.

Means: I just bought a replacement main MAF sensor from a friend who owns a dealership and once my mechanic has fitted it the "check engine" light should go out and everything should be perfect again.

There you go. A little simpler. Sorry about the confusion.

Oh I understand english and the sarcasm in your post. I was just wondering why someone would talk about the car they bought when it has nothing to do with where you can buy parts for the 4.2L. Congrats on the new car

P.S. If you weren't being sarcastic then I apologize. But, it seemed like you were being sarcastic. Also if you know where you can get parts for the 4.2L. I'll be your new best friend.
