Remote Starter possible for A6???

RE: Remote Starter possible for A6???
Dankhound,
I called around to many remote starter installers, as you suggested. I found only one who has actually installed a remote starter into a 2006 A6. I asked them about how they deal with the immobilizer. They said they "don't bypass it," but rather, "interface with it." They focus on high end cars and said it would cost $450 to install. (Based on what I've seen in other message boards, the installer I called seems to be held in high regard.) I do not understand what "interfacing" with the immobilizer means, and have little knowledge about how this works. Perhaps you understand what he said?
Thank you.

Thye will be using a module that fools the car into thinking that there is a key in or near the ignition, thats what they mean by integrating or interfacing. You need to do this on any car that is equipped with a passive immobilizer. $480 sounds in the right range, and what type of unit will they be installing?

That sounds like the shop id go with. All they mean by interface is set up a secondary input to the immobilizer so the key doesnt need to be in the car for the remote start to operated, however the system still remains operational. So a theif would still need to find a way to bypass the immobilizer to borrow your car. Usually the engine cuts out after 10 min if the key is not inserted.
