Hello. I have a 2000 Audi A6 2.7T, that has for the past two years has needed the catalytic convertor replaced and I have a friend at my local AUID dealer who resets the malfunction and then the car for the short term passes the yearly state inspection.

Anyways, can you please tell me what I will gain when I get this replaced? and What will it cost? I have been quoted over $1000K for this job and there of course are two convertors that need replaced.

Please advise. What would you do, buy the parts and find a decent mechanic?

I'd buy cats from Force Five in Concord NH and either has some put them on or do it myself.
