Reverse Lights
My 1998 A6 has a problem with the reverse lights remaing on when the car is being driven forward. You can imagine the confusion this causes to people behind me, especially at night! The fuses look okay. Does this sound like an expensive "fix." Thanks!

Reverse Lights
Definitely the switch in the shifter position...

There is a momentary switch to turn on the reverse / backup lights. The switch as mentioned in the previous post, stuck in "on" position. If the wiring around the bulbs is shorted, it would blow the fuse and not leave the lights on.

Check into the switch... if you do it yourself, it's a matter of few bucks.. switch might cost around ~20 or $30 max... I can't imagine it being more than that... I really do not know the price.

I have the same issue and my transmission also has the lights on the dash (gear indicator) all lite up like all the gears are engaged. the car seems to flare a bit when shifting but all the gears work fine, except 5th. its an auto tran and a 99 a6 avant. Reverse lights just stay on. would this be the same issue? if so, what is the part called i need to check out?
