Default reverse lights out.

I tested the bulbs, they are ok. i didn't see a reverse light in my fuse list but it may have said backup lamp and i didn't realize it so I haven't checked a fuse yet.

in my searching it sounds common that a switch on the transmission goes out but from what I've seen they all say automatic or don't say if its related to a manual transmission. Also I', trying to find where on the car it is actually located. It doesn't sound like i don't have to get under the car to do this. is anyone able to give me any advise on this?

Also i installed 55w ballasts and 8k hid's last week, I'm not sure if they stopped working before or after. I know they did work recently though.

Check the fuses first. You're thinking of the neutral safety switch I believe, and it should be near the top of the transmission - during a clutch change, I was able to unplug all the harnesses by reaching down under the coolant reservoir to the trams, so it can probably be changed that way.

No Reverse Light

Hi all I recently bought an Audi A4 2001 auto 2lt Petrol Saloon (Modal:B5) 8E5 Series.
When the car is put into reverse no light. Basic checks done as follows :

> All fuses in the car by the driver side dash board all checked OK.
> Related bulbs all swapped around with working ones and checked OK.
> Car has been lifted onto a Ramp to check reverse switch, but unable to locate the switch on the Auto gearbox. Audi main dealers unable to confirm if this car has a reverse switch on the gear box or not.

> The gearbox illumination board under the gearstick has been reseated, all related lights working correct.

Need your input. If all the basic t-shooting as above has been carried out all I have left is to get it checked by an auto electrician which costs an arm & a leg. I am car savey so can check out any suggestions. I would appreciate any assistance anyone may advise. Thanks to all in advance. Al
