Ribbed belt ?
Hi guys. I have question... I bought my 00 2.7T about 2 weeks ago and It has ~128 000 km. In my maintenance booklet it says that the "Ribbed belt" should be replaced at 120 000 km. I have some weird sound and I was thinking to replace my timing belt. Also, a weird thing happened to me. A week ago I was stuck in parking lot with about 10-15 cm snow, so i pushed it a bit to get out of there and some smoke came in. With a hard smell... (can't specify it)... I thought it was clutch but its not.. anyways :P I was wondering if these 2 things can be from this ribbed belt. Can someone tell me what exactly is this ? I found this: http://parts.autopartsonlinecanada.c...Multi+Rib+Belt
but not sure...
Every input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance..
*PS: I had 17521 (P1113) Bank1-Sensor1 Internal Resistance too High code on vag-com today, which I believe is O2 sensor.... If anyone can relate this to the smoke effects I got... :P
Thanks again

RE: Ribbed belt ?
Sounds more like the all-too-common oil leak than the belt. The oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold and causes a smell. As for the smoke...what color? If that smoke was caused by the same leak then you need to fix it quick (don't worry no damage done in this case).
If it was the belt then there is a major problem such as the water pump siezed or the idle pully siezed. Both are easy to check. Look for abnormal wear on the belt. Should be fairly obvious.
Were there any other symptoms? Temperature, clatter, squeal...

There's this belt that you can see when pop up the hood and it has a line on it... seems like it must be changed. I believe it's not the timing belt... I wonder if thats the "ribbed belt".. :P

RE: Ribbed belt ?
You're at about 78k miles and that's closing in on timing belt, water pump, etc change as well. Normally the serpentine belt gets replaced at the same time. Just something to keep in mind. If you read discussions on the forum you'll see recommendations from 75k and up. FYI, I did mine at 94k.
