Cool right headlight dimmer than the left

1999 a6Q (4b model, AHA engine, certified to 100k - now has 159k) had for 10 yrs & have fixed some of my electrical issues using posts on this site - all work on my car has been done by me. i just replaced my cloudy headlights with angel eyes from ebay. however, when looking at the lights the right side is dimmer than the left. so, i put a volt meter on both wiring harnesses ( driver & passenger side ) to rule out the new headlights & i am receiving 12.2v on the driver side & 11.4v on the passenger side. can someone explain what relay or connector i should be looking at for a shorted connection or post a6 wiring diagram.

If they are HID you should check the Ballast and wiring to the light from the ballast. Be careful, HIGH OUTPUT.

Default headlight issues!

thanks for responding. headlights are halogen. i am trying to trace back from the headlight where the passenger headlight wiring harness connects. i believe if i can find that i may be able to find a connector pin that is being grounded, melted, or just not getting a connection. i removed the glovebox & have not found the passenger wiring harness. any help would be appreciated.

Also, i recently replaced the headlight switch to see if it was the issue, but no change. i only ruled out the switch that turns the lights on.

Time for you to get the Bently manual for your car and begin tracing wires. It is probably the ground on the right side!

i should have the techni book cds any day now i won from ebay. just trying to get this out of the way in free time today so just looking for a direction as to what number the connector plugs into on the lower right pillar.

i agree it is probably a ground touching something or melted to plastic & not getting full voltage.
