Default Rotor Size & Brake pads

I took my car to Brakes Plus to get my brakes replaced and, long story put short, they said whoever installed new rotors installed a version too small and put in 280mm rotors when the car is supposed to have 312mm rotors. My brake pads were too large for the rotors, but I never replaced the brake pads or rotors and I've owned this car for 4 years and driven 50K miles on brake pads which were too large for the rotor. They said they couldn't install new brake pads on that rotor because of safety problems so I had to pay practically $400 just for the front 2 rotors. I'm going to go to a more independent shop and get my brake pads replaced regardless of their opinion without getting the rotors. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the technician I got to fix my car was crazy or am I trying to save too much money by not replacing my rotors? Is my technician correct by saying the rotor size on my car is too small?

If your rotors are too small you are crazy to drive t like that.

We can't tell what size they should be if you don't tell us the year and engine for your Audi.
