Default Strut Removal ?

Hi I have a 97 A6 Quattro 2.8. My front strut is 98% out. My problem is do I need to remove the sway bar to get the strut the rest of the way out. Or can I strong arm the lower control arm and pop it off the lower control arm stud. Tried by myself with no luck. The last time I had thesway bar off was to change an axle and it was a motherf!?#er to get back on.
Any suggestions please.

TIA

Default RE: Strut Removal ?

Make sure you have both sides of the car off the ground. This will help to provide enough droop to get the shock out.
Removing the sway bar isn't necessary. Removing the forward upper control arm from the spindle will help tremendously to remove the shocks, but isn't absolutely required.
