Default '99 2.8 Strut removal

Good Afternoon, all:

I did some quick searching and I can't seem to find an answer to this, so here goes:

I need to remove the driver's side strut from a '99.5 A4 2.8q. I don't need/want to take apart the whole suspension, so what's the minimal amount that I need to remove to get the strut out? I know there's the big bolt that holds it to the lower control arm, but how else is it held in place?

I have spring compressors, etc, available. The instructions I keep finding all refer to removing the entire suspension, and I simply don't need to do that.

Thanks!!

i'm not sure if it can be done without taking off the lower arms but it def can be done taking the lower arms off. just take out the 2 bolts that attach the lower arms to the spindle, take out the axle bolt and take your brake calipers off. it's not a huge job

If you can get your spring compressors on there without having to move anything its possible to do it without taking the lowers off, i couldnt get mine on though. The reason for that is that once you get the strut bolt off the spring is still slightly compressed so it will push down and you can pull up by hand enough to get it to clear the lower control arm.

Maybe these DIYs can help you see what you'll be getting into.
