We have an Audi A6 Quattro with a 2.8L engine with an automatic transmission. We were changing the coolant sensor when my son decided to try and start the car. Several other sensors were disconnected and the throttle body was exposed and the PCV valve and other hoses were off.

Now the car is stuck in either drive or neutral and the key will not come out. I have cleaned the gear shift area out and found nothing. the button on the gear shift is stuck in the in position.

Please advise.

 

Something dropped in the shift mechanism. Pull the cover where the shifter comes out of the console and fish out the stuff -- I once made 78 cents on a fix like that.
