supercharger
Hey guys,
I'm new to this site and i'm new to audi in general but I just bought a 2000 audi a6 4.2. I love the car but i still want more power. Is it possible to add a supercharger or turbocharger to this car and if so which one is recommended and where can i get it? I live in new jersey. Let me know. thanks

To date, nobody has produced a supercharger for the C5 A6 4.2 engine that produces anything of value. Motodyne was working on one, but could not substaniate or provide evidence of increased power. Turbos are not possible without significant modifications...which might be easily accomplished if you just find a wrecked RS6 and take the entire motor for a swap...but then you also ahve to worry about the transmission etc.
Just sit back and enjoy the 300 HP in your beast!!!

I am new to the Forum and to Audi also. Seems like you are an experienced A6 4.2L owner? What is the easiest way to remove and replace the "Stinkin" air filter box? I got it off okay, but I haduse my Jedi/McGiver skills to get that "****" back on[:@].
I dropped a K&N in, and I can not tell any difference. What would you recommend? And throw some performance mods in a post. I have been reading about a chip for the tiptronic. Does yours lag?
I have been driving a turbo, since Moses was in the 3rd Grade! So, I am use to that "Chick-kow" kind of burst. Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

Unfortunately, there are not many performance mods for the A6 4.2. The results of a K&N filter are mized at best. There is a trick to getting at the lower clip for the airbox, that you can make out of a wire coat hanger. However, I cannot find that picture for you sicne AudiWorld's site is down right now.
I think the "best" perfomance mods you can do for your 4.2 is with the suspension. H-sport sway bars (retail about $400 and a DIY install with ramps and regular tools) are an absolute must for any A6. Makes the cornering much flatter, and driving much more enjoyable. You have a 2004, which means your car is already equipped with the sport suspension components (springs and shocks), but of course, you could firm up the ride more with something aftermarket, like coilovers or lowering springs/HD shocks.
There are a couple of tuners out there that carry a "chip" for the 4.2, but I think they sell for $500-600 and only give a 20HP increase, and I am not sure exactly how that increase is obtained.
Anyway, I am sorry that I do not ahve better news about engine upgrades to squeeze more power from your car, but I think i you focus on the suspension first, then maybe some big brakes, you will not be disappointed.

+1 for sways
+1 lowering springs
+1 shocks
+1 for chip (although I haven't done it yet)
MTM is working on a SC. They have a RS4 that is currently equipped with their supercharger, but it is still undergoing testing. They want to attain a certain amount of miles before they start producing it for market. Based out of Germany - www.mtm-online.de Last I saw it is going for over $12kish (can't remember where)
This is Audiworlds look at the MTM RS4 Clubsport: http://www.audiworld.com/news/07/mtm-supercharged-rs4/
So, there is something in the works, but whether or not we'll get something to workfor our AWN is another story.
