Default Surging on start-up, 4.2 quattro

I've been dealing with this issue for a while now. The first time it happened it threw on the Check Engine light. I used a scanner to read the code (P0101) and it said there was a problem with the Mass Airflow Sensor. I tired using the MAF cleaner but to no avail. I then bought a new sensor from Bosch and installed it 2 days ago. The first start up (engine is cold when this happens) went fine with no surging but when I started my car this morning it surged once again and threw on the Check engine light with the same code. I used the scanner to check if the MAF was reading and it was. I have also noticed that when i add a can of SeaFoam to the gas tank it goes away. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem? Thanks.

This morning the car started up fine but the check engine light still came on. Would I have to do an ecu reset?

The Check Engine light keeps coming on but I've made sure that the Mass Airflow Sensor is working properly. What could be the problem?

know anyone with a vagcom? you need to have the readings looked at and also see if the voltage to the sensor is correct in order to diag it further - also check for unmetered air - vacuum leaks or intake tube not sealing correctly.

The problem has now gotten worse. The change is that now it will intermittently stall and when I manage to start the engine(usually on the second try) it sounds like the engine is forcing itself. It is also accompanied with a whine. SeaFoam in the tank doesn't seem to work anymore. Every once in a while it does start up fine as well as when the engine is warm. Any further ideas?

Just a guess - probably a vacuum leak or throttle body might be going bad.
