Hey guys, first post here, but Im moving to michigan in May, and i am looking into a new car for up there. I need something AWD for the winters. I came across an Audi on craigslist and I dont know much about them, so i figured this would be a good place to learn.

heres a link to the ad

Lemme know what i should look out for, and what i should ask.

What part of Michigan are you going to?

Most people there don't have awd by the way. I lived there for the first 19 years of my life and drove a Mustang for the 3 yearsI was able to drive before joining the navy.

Keep in mind that while Audi's can be expensive to maintain in general, you are going to the land of the big 3. If it isn't American made, or at least an American brand, good luck getting something fixed reasonably priced.

You'd probably be better off getting a domestic up there or something newer that will need less maintenance. I know there are Audi owners in Michigan, and many on the boards who will be able to better tell you what you can expect.

I went to Detroit in April to go to a Wings game. During one of the intermissions they brought out a brand new TT and the entire place erupted into boos.

Good luck!

I own the same car. A '95 A6 with 2.8L engine. It is also white. I have 197,000 miles on it and it is still going.

Ireplace things as they breakdown. Probably spent $8,000 over the life of the car so far.

If you are frugal, you better find a local mechanic that knows Audi's well because Audi dealers are quite a bit more expensive for repairs. Parts are more costly on these German cars than on American or Japanese vehicles.

Timing belt should be changed every 90,000 miles so make sure it has been changed. Also make sure when driving it the eng temp gauge stays around the first THICK line, about 40% of full scale. If it is real low all the time there is probably a thermostat or temperature sensor problem.

Check the heating controls when test driving it.

Gud luck.....I really like mine and have had good service from it. It really goes in snow. I am in NY .

I'd spend some $$$ and have it checked carefully by an Audi expert before buying.
