Default looking for a new car, thinking of a quattro turbo

Im thinking of buying a audi a4 quattro turbo (petrol), and would like to know more about this specific model.

How much tuning potential does this engine has on stock internals, any weak points ?

When were the 1.8T/2.0T models introduced with quattro, cant afford it brannew.

Any other info ? Rust ? Reliability ?

Well, you will get flamed for this question. use the search tab.

but im nice. so if you get a 1.8t, you will have a huge amount of modification. i dont know about the 2.0t... but if you get like a 2.8 (non turbo) there is squat you can do to it.

the 1.8t with a 5speed manual quattro is the most reliable drivetrain/engine combination audi has never built. if you treat it right (oil and such) it wont let you down.

the only thing that might bug you are little things going wrong. like maby a mass air flow sensor (MAF) dieing or something stupid like that. i haev had my 1.8t for over 6 months and i have had no problems. i got it with 99k miles and it runs like a charm and accepts upgrades nicley.

for any info on 1.8t, go HERE.

when i changed my exaust to borla, i was under my car a lot. basically NO rust. it was perfect. and it lived in virginia or something liek that for a year so salted roads were there and it did just fine.

if you get this car, it wont be too fast at first (1.8t i think is 8.1 sec for 0-60) but they upgrade well and are faster in higher speeds (like muscle cars have wicked 0-60 but arnt that fast for top speeds (like 80-100).

I think the 1.8t AEB motors (pre 2000) have forged internals and are safe up to about 350hp.. Plus they are ndbw which is best for accurate tuning and performance. Engine code ATW-dbw (2000-2001) about 300hp but. Search to verify that though.

I hate to correct you as I can tell that 1.8T's are your specialty, but you are wrong in my opinion. I think the general consensus here is that the 2.8 is the most reliable out of the bunch. Turbos do tend to be tempermental, as you indicated in your contradiction above.
