Yea thats a good price. I paid 14,500 for my 2002 A6 2.7T so an '04 for less sounds like a good deal. How many miles are on it?

If you want speed, chip it! I have just installed the GIAC chip and am loving every minute of it. I have owned many cars, some fast some slow, but this is now the fastest by a long stretch. I have offered to race a friend in a Mustang GT 5.0, but he doesn't seem so keen after riding in the A6. Hehehehe.

My car has 100K on it and the turbos are nice and quiet, DV's are working fine and the TBB looks as good as new. I only step on it when needed so hopefully it will go on forever.......

just another newbie here - i just bought a 2000 A6 2.7T with the 6-speed manual on December 11th. it has 94k now and the TB had been replaced at 67k. runs and drives like new but thanks to this thread i have a much better understanding of what to look for in order to help fix or prevent problems as well as mods of course. i would love to start in on the go-fast mods but i really need to get the windows tinted and get some nice wheels as i really hate the ugly stockers! i want to lower it but i really don't want a harsh ride so i'm on the fence there....

thanks again everyone.

bump for this ^

i found some pics of the 2.7T online and i think i know where it is (near rear cam cover on passenger side?). i looked and i think i located it but it did not look green...it just looked black. can anyone tell me exactly where this is and should i bother replacing it with an updated green one if it isn't? my temp gauge seems to read normal on the gauge, although there might be a separate temp sender just for the gauge, i don't know.

TIA

Yours is probably the original black one, while the updated is the green one.
Replacing the old black one is just preventive maintenance, just as replacing the TBB (throttle body boot) and the DVs (diverter valves). Easy tasks that are better handled on your own terms than when the stuff fails in the middle of nowhere at night, in the snow, uphill... You get the idea!

Default timing belt

When is a good sign to check or change the timing belt. I have 95k miles on the A6 2.7T 2004... But it runs great and I keep maintanence on it as scheduled.

Please advise

You may already living on borrowed time, but I am not sure about the 2004 model. On my 2000 80-85k miles is the recommended mileage for a new TB.
Check out blauparts for the TB kit and rental tool if you are planning on doing it yourself.
