Default Tire Pressure System Issues

My tire inflation system (86 - A6 3.2Q) is constantly warning of a malfunction. I've had the dealership check it out twice now, under warranty. And the first time they reported one of the tires was low, while the second time they attributed it to temperature changes. I've been checking the pressure often and have not observed any measurable changes. Since I am continually resetting the system and not losing pressure, I am convinced this is a sensor or other electronic problem.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems and, if so, how were they resolved?

Thanks.

Default Hi

Hi, Again

If your car is still under warranty I would take it back to the dealer again. If not...then consider where you live??? and the extremes of the cold temperatures there may be some validity in what the tech said about the tire pressures dropping with the cold weather and causing the light to come on. Are you running the car with OE tires and at the OE specified air pressure? There should be a label in one of the door jams specifying air pressure for the tires.

I have set up a TSB library for the C6. Take a look at the TPMS section in the library and you will see 4 or 5 TSBs dealing with the TPMS. Perhaps one of them will help.

Problem #1 -You have to go to an Audi dealership because of warantee issues.

Problem #2 - see above

Problem #3 - see problem #1

There is no excuse -- Tell the dealer to fix the problem or you'll complain to Audi, National Transportation Safety Bureau, Better Business Bureau, and God. It should work correctly no matter what the temp is - don't let them be wishy washy --

PS I hate the tire pressure systems because of failed sensors and crap logic.

+1

Thats why Audi is going away from sensor..... and uses ABS sensor logic to calculate tire pressure.

Haven't had really any issues really. other than tires themselves....

How do they use ABS sensor logic to calculate tire pressure?

One would think that the rolling diameters could be different but that would require significant logic due to things like weight distrubution, etc.
