ok, this doesn't happen often but sometimes when coasting at low speeds the tranny seems to be unsure of what gear to shift to. sometimes it just hangs in neutral for a second and then kicks hard into a gear. i was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem and would a fluid change help anything. ever since the first time it happened i have been scared of doing damage to what i understand to be an expensive component. any suggestions?

 

It is possible there is something wrong with the TCM, OR thier could be an update for the TCM. If you know someone with a VAGcom they could scan the TCM. What year, engine?

 

thanks, i need to ask my indy guy, he's probably got one. hopefully it's something easy. i just spent a lot on it having seals replaced and timing belt and water pump. it is a 2000 a6 2.7t tipronic. thanks again.

 

Changing the fluid would not hurt. Mine shifts much smother & faster after flushing out the old nasty fluid.

 

did you do it yourself? if so how much fluid did it take? and what kind?
