Transmission Control Module replacement
#3
Could try an post instructions, but fairly involved if you havent done one before and dont know what your looking at.. and it needs to be re-encoded when done. CVT's are finicky and you should prolly let a shop do it...

The control module for the CVT is inside the transmission, but it looks like just remove a cover plate and there it is. Here is a picture (you might have to create an account to get access): http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/au/A6Q...64/51/3427078/
Good luck,

Thanks Bob, the vagcat picture does confirm that it's in the back of the transmission, although I thought, maybe hoping, that it was on the outside!
Jim, it looks like it's a matter of removing a real cover and then unbolting the unit...is this right? If so, can it be done on the car or does the transmission have to be removed?
I came across a BBA-reman website wher you can send the TCM in for repair, I was told about $500...has anyone heard of them?

nothing77, it must be different to yours...I've seen discussions on shops quoting around $1400 to $4000 at the dealership so as much as I would like it to be...I can't imagine it's a 2 minute job! thanks.
The problem we have been having does seem to be intermittent, the flashing drive selector display has been mostly on, even though the car drives fine and sometimes it goes back to displaying the gear normally. In the begining we had an occasional problem where the car would not reverse after shifting into R, shift back into P, back to R and then it would be OK. I checked the connector at the back of the transmission and it seems to be clean without any corrosion. Another thing we've noticed is that you can move the gear selector into gear without having your foot on the brake pedal. Is it possible that something is interfering with the shifter below instead?
Hopefully the additional information might provide some insight for the experts out there?!
Thanks,
Rich
