Transmission Question
Hey I checked out the search page for transmission questions and found that my transmission may not like shifting in the cold (totally agree, 3rd gear), but I had two other questions. I have a 97 2.8 quattro avant a6 and started living on a steep hill about 6 months ago. I have to back up the hill early in the morning to go to class ~5 feet to flat ground, when I do, the rear wheels get over the hill and then there is a slipping kind of feel or something and it kind of thumps then keeps going normal. Doesn't seem good, is my transmission starting to wear out? Also when I braked really hard the other day then had to accelerate really hard afterward (almost got hit by a bus), the transmission was out of gear after the braking and just rev'ed for a second before engaging. Any thoughts on why? I had the transmission serviced before leaving (Home) for school.

Consider your drive train stabilizer and/or snub mount. If there is too much slop (or play), then it could be causing any/all of these problems. Even after they are remedied, the trouble may still be there because some internal damage already developed over time.
