Default trouble starting and idles low (800-900rpm)

I have a 2000 A6 2.8l with 100,000 miles.

Last week I tried starting my car up in the morning and it would not start. It didnt sound like an electical problem because i was not getting the click sound. I would turn the key and it sounded like it was tring to turn over. So i let the car sit for 5 min and this time tried to start the car with the gas pedal half way down and this time it started. Once it started it seemed weak so I gas it more gas. I noticed that the car was at a low idle rate (800-900rpm) usually it would idle at 1000-1300 rmp.

any suggestions?

My 4.2 idles around 600 to 700. I don't think your idle is too low, then again, i dont know much about these particular cars. Can you hear a vacuum leak?

i have a 2.8 i had that same problem, we plugged it into the computer the code was : 17953 p1545 035. upon doing further research those cars, more common in the passat, had throttle valve control system errors. the part is only about $100. mine only did it consistently whenever it was extremely cold out this past winter. your best bet would be to go to the audi garage and have them plug it into the computer.

Have you replaced your fuel filter yet?
