Does any one have any ideas on why my valet key will not start my A6. It will open the doors, and it will turn the ignition switch, but the car shuts of instantly!

Did you lock it with the remote then unlock it with the valet key? The alarm could be set??? Try unlocking it with the remote, then start it with the valet key...

Thanks that was a great idea, unfortunately it still doesn't work. In fact I went out and tried every combination I could think of. Still it was worth a try.

Here's something new...I just tried my wallet (plastic key) for the first time. I get the same problem. The ignition cuts off and the key code light blinks just like the valet key. I'm totaly lost.....

The plastic key (emergency key) is only for opening doors. The valey key is metal with a plastic top.

Well at least I know why one of them doen't work... I guess it's off to the dealership. I appreciate the help flattening the learning curve.

your valet key may not be programed into your computer, what year is the car?
see if you can find a good locksmith, its cheaper than a dealer.
and yes I am a locksmith.

I have a 2001 A6 Quatro 2.8
